History

History of MPDPA

Established in 1968, the Malaysian Private Dental Practitioners’ Association (MPDPA) began as the Malaysian Private Dental Practitioners’ Society (MPDPS), founded by the late Datuk Dr. Lim Chee Shin, the late Datuk Dr. Gerald De Silva and the late Dr. A. Pathmanathan.

For more than five decades, MPDPA has remained committed to upholding the interests, welfare and professional development of Private Dental Practitioners in Malaysia, while promoting professional standards and public awareness of oral health.

In 2000, MPDPS was renamed the Malaysian Private Dental Practitioners’ Association (MPDPA) under the Presidency of Dr. Wong Foot Meow, reflecting the Association’s growing membership and stature. In 2004, MPDPA established its own full-time Secretariat, further strengthening its administration and support for members.

Over the years, MPDPA has evolved beyond professional representation to become a platform for continuing dental education, scientific exchange, professional fellowship, advocacy and engagement with the dental industry. Its initiatives include conferences, CPD programmes, workshops, the Annual Dental Surgery Assistant Congress, publications such as E-PROBE, and various professional and social activities.

Today, MPDPA continues its legacy of serving private dentists in Malaysia — advocating for its members, supporting professional excellence and contributing towards better dental care for the community.
